Neko Case (born on September 8, 1970 in Alexandria, Virginia) is a singer-songwriter American, best known for his career as a solo and as a member of The New Pornographers.
His music label commonly as country alternative, although case not described it that way. Recorded and toured some years as Neko Case & Her Boyfriends of change to your own name. Case normally write their own material, but also plays and has recorded versions of songs by artists such as Loretta Lynn, Tom Waits, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams and even Queen. It’s very protective with their artistic independence, combined with the DIY punk ethic (Do It Yourself / do-it-TU Mismo), a strong sense of business and clear views on your artistic goals. Grew up in the United States, began his musical career in Canada. He lived in Vancouver, British Columbia, from 1994 until 1998, playing with a variety of punk, Cub and Maow, bands and recording his first album of country music. Frequently collaborates with Canadian musicians including The New Pornographers, The Sadies, and Carolyn Mark and has recorded several composers Canadian, remarkable in their EP material Canadian Amp (2001). As a result, is also considered a significant figure in Canadian music.

Biography
Case was born of parents of Ukrainian kindred. His family travelled quite when he was young before settling in Tacoma, Washingyon, the city deemed his town of residence. Left home when she was 15 years.
In 1994, case moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, to attend the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. While attending school played in various bands, including The the Longs, The Propanes, The Weasles, Cub (which included also Featured Iwata I AM SPOONBENDER), drums and Maow. All were local punk bands except for cub and The Weasles, that case described as a “supergroup country”.
The Virginian and Mass Romantic
Case adopted all music country music in his 1997 album with Her Boyfriends The Virginian. The album featured original compositions and recordings of Ernest Tubb, Loretta Lynn, and even the Queen song song “Misfire” in 1974. When it was released critics comparing Neko Case with honky-tonk as Lynn and Patsy Cline singers.
In 1998, case graduated with a degree in fine Arts, which meant that you lost their student visa. Dejo Canada for Seattle, Washington. Case of leave, even so, he recorded the vocals for a series of songs ended in Mass Romantic, the debut album by The New Pornographers. His vocals on songs such as “Letter from an occupants” are honest performances of power-pop, stripping at all of any country. Originally conceived as a side project of its members, The New Pornographers decided to rotate together and finally record a second album.
Furnace Room Lullaby
22 February 2000, case released his second solo album with Her Boyfriends, Furnace Room Lullaby. A complete set of 12 original songs, Lullaby introduced elements of the “country noir” that defined the solo career of case onwards. That pitch was ecidente even by the photo on the cover, including case on the ground as a corpse in a concrete floor. Already within the album, his vocal style moves away from the categorical honky-tonk but retains its vibrant comparisons with musicians such as Cline, Lynn, Hazel Dickens, Tanya Tucker, and Dolly Parton. Song title to disk included Sam Raimi film soundtrack The Gift, and “Porchlight” is the soundtrack to The Slaughter Rule incluyó´en.
Sometimes case tour with his friend, Canadian singer and songwriter Carolyn Mark as The Corn Sisters. One of his performances, in Seattle’s Hattie Hat in Ballard, was recorded and released as an album, The Other Women, November 28 in the year 2000.
More or less on the date that was released Lullaby, case left Seattle by Chicago because he felt that Seattle wasn’t very hospitable with their local artists.
The first work of case in Chicago was an EP of eight songs that he recorded in his kitchen. Canadian Amp, his first work without Her Boyfriends, it was released on his own label Lady Pilot in 2001. She wrote two songs. Six songs were versions, including Neil Young “Dreaming Man” song and Hank Williams “Alone and Forsaken”. Four versions were written by Canadian artists. Initially only EP was available at the concerts of case, but eventually his departure was wider.
Case recorded their third long-lasting Blacklisted in Tucson, Arizona. Its first edition in which only appeared she credits, without Her Boyfriends, which was released on August 20, 2002. Some believe the “Blacklisted” title (blacklisted) refers case being censored of life of the Grand Ole Opry because removed his shirt during a performance on August 4, 2001, although the same case has denied this. Was asked about the incident in 2004, and case replied “I was a sunshine.” “People you would have loved that it would have been a punk thing type fuck you, but it was actually a physical ailment.”
Most of the 14 songs on the album are originals, except for the versions of “Running Out Of Fools”, previously a hit for Aretha Franklin, and “Look For Me (I’ll Be Around)”. Blacklisted drives “country noir” sound, and was described by critics as exuberant, grey and atmospheric. Case cited the Director David Lynch, composer Angelo Badalamenti, and the soundtrack of Neil Young film Dead Man as influences. A song, “Deep Red Bells” was inspired by memories of case being a vulnerable young Seattle area when the Green River Killer (the Green River killer) was loose.
In April 2003, case was voted as “the sexiest babe of the indie rock”, a survey of internet on playboy.com, receiving 32% of the votes. Playboy asked her to pose nude for the magazine, but she declined the offer. She told Entertainment Weekly magazine that “I didn’t want to be the girl who posed in playboy and then – by the way – made some music.” “I would be very angry if someone came top of a show to my and I gave a nude photo of my and I would that be signed instead of my CD”. In more recent interviews she refused to discuss the survey.
Electric Version and Twin Cinema
The second album of The New Pornographers Electric Version, was released on May 6, 2003. Case sang in even in more songs on this album, and toured with the group.
3 And 4 April 2004, case played two shows with collaborators from for a long time in the Lee’s Palace in Toronto, The Sadies recorded out as a live album The Tigers Have Spoken, in October the same year.
Twin Cinema, the third album from The New Pornographers released August 23, 2005, in which case again sang several songs. Apart from providing Parties vocal companions, case is the lead singer in two ballads, “The Bones of an Idol” and “These Are The Fables”.
Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
Fox Confessor Brings the Flood released 7 March 2006. The album was recorded primarily in Tucson, Arizona during the course of two years while Neko working on his album live “The Tigers Have Spoken” and continued to play with The New Pornographers. Critics hailed by the voice of Neko, but also by its use of harsh images not only disk and structures little frencuentes. Fox Confessor Brings The Flood was found in many lists of 2006, as the number 1 best musical choice of Amazon.com and number 2 on All Songs Considered NPR publishers.
Awards
Neko was honoured with the Añoñ female artist at the Plug Independent Music Awards Prize 2006-02-02. He was in the top 200 albums of the year number 52 square.
